Auburn is a beautiful town that is nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. At an elevation of around 1,400 feet above sea level it has slightly cooler temperatures than the valley yet is still under the snow line. At a drive time of about 37 minutes to the Sacramento International Airport and only about an hour and a half to Lake Tahoe it sits in a great location. It is also less than an hour to the closest ski resorts.
The Auburn topography consists of rolling hills, and local rivers. There are many oak trees and pine trees. Auburn grows a variety of fruits and vegetables. Most notable are grapes for the local wineries and Mandarins in the fall/winter.
Auburn is known as the “Endurance Capital of the world” as it is the finish line of the Western States race. This is a 100 100 Mile Endurance run. The Tevis Cup, a 100 mile endurance horse event. It also has been a host to the Tour of California bike event. As well as its own half iron man “Worlds Toughest Half” race. Other notable races are the Auburn Century 100 mile bike ride, Coolest 24 Hour Mountain Bike Race, Rio Del Lago 100 mile endurance run, Sierra Nevada 50 and the American River 50. Not to mention all of the other events that happen through out the year.
Auburns population in 2010 was 13,330. It was incorporated in May of 1888, with a history dating back to the gold rush. Some notable land marks are the Placer High School. This is one of the oldest high schools in the state of Ca. It also is the home to the Foresthill Bridge. This bridge has been used in many films. It connects Auburn and the town of Foresthill. It is the highest bridge in Ca and the fourth highest in the United States at 730 feet and a length of 2,428 feet.
Auburns climate ranges from an average summertime temperature of 94 degrees as the average high in July (hottest month), to 39 as the average low in January and December. Precipitation averages are around 3-4 inches per month during November through March. April averages about 2 inches.
